Peter Mountford‘s second novel, The Dismal Science (2014, Tin House Books) was a New York Times Editor’s Choice, and a finalist for the 2015 Washington State Book Award in Fiction. For his work on The Dismal Science, he was awarded a 4Culture Grant, a grant from the city of Seattle, and the Corporation of Yaddo’s Wallace Fellowship for a Distinguished Writer.
Mountford’s debut novel, A Young Man’s Guide to Late Capitalism (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt), won the 2012 Washington State Book Award in fiction and was a finalist in the 2012 VCU Cabell First Novelist Prize. Since graduating from the University of Washington’s MFA program in 2006, Mountford’s work has appeared in the Atlantic, the New York Times Magazine, Granta, Best New American Voices 2008, and more. He teaches and is the events curator at Hugo House, Seattle’s writing center.
